4 YEAR OLD LOSES LIFE IN GREERS FERRY LAKE

On the 20th of July 2010 at approx 5:30 pm, the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office recieved a call that a four year old was missing in the Mid Way Bridge area, where highway 225 crosses Greers Ferry Lake. Greers Ferry Fire Department First responders, Cleburne County  Search and Rescue, and Greers Ferry Police Department personnel responded. The Mathews family had pulled their boat up on the shore and they were swimming in the immediate area around their boat with their children when they discovered 4 year old Lane Isaac Mathews was missing. A search was initiated on land, and also in the water by the first diver on the scene. The diver was able to locate the 4 year old and get him to the surface where life saving efforts began. The child was transported to Baptist Medical Center in Heber Springs where continued efforts to revive 4 year old Lane Matthews were unsuccessful.
