Attempted First Degree Murder Charges Filed

On the 5th day of April 2010, the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Independence County Sheriff's Office in reference to two females (ages 25 and 32) who were at the emergency room in Batesville, reporting a man from the Concord area of Cleburne County, had tried to kill them. After detectives from the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office arrived it was determined one of the females was being treated for a head injury that was reported to have occurred after being hit over the head with a wooden baseball bat and the other female had received only minor cuts and abrasions from trying to flee from the suspect.

The victims reported they had been at the suspects home watching movies when the suspect told them he had something he wanted to show them and asked if they wanted to go to Flat Rock, (an area they had never been to), and take a look around. After arriving at the Flat Rock area the victims were taken to the top of some bluffs at which point for no reason one of the females was pushed from the bluff that was approximately 30 to 40 feet high by the suspect. While attempting to pull herself back to the top she was struck on the head with a baseball bat. It was also reported the suspect raised the baseball bat in an attempt to hit the second victim, but she fled toward the car falling along the way and was unable to escape the suspect. She received minor cuts and abrasions. The victims stated the suspect told them if they told anyone about what had happened he would kill them. The victims were able to eventually talk the suspect into taking them to the emergency room in Batesville for treatment. The suspect Randell Wayne Reed 26 of Concord left the hospital and was later arrested without incident and has been charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Two Counts of Kidnapping, and one Count of Terroristic Threatening. Bond for Reed was set a $200,000.
