Stolen Property Recovered

During the afternoon of June 11th officers from the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office and the Greers Ferry Police Department recovered a Kawasaki Mule and a golf cart which had been reported stolen from the Greers Ferry area. Other property, which is believed to be stolen, was also located and at this time the incident is still under investigation. Twenty-nine year old Andrew Lowery of Higden and forty year old George Dempsey of Greers Ferry were taken into custody, booked into the Cleburne County Detention Center and charged with Theft by Receiving. Bond for each was set at $50,000.

Late in May a Smith & Wesson 9mm automatic pistol reported stolen in February 2012 from the Cleburne County Livestock Auction was recovered from an individual in Decatur, Texas, Even though the weapon had been immediately entered as stolen in NCIC it had been repeatedly bought and sold. At this point the gun has been traced from the individual who was in possession of it, to a pawn shop in Decatur, to a second individual in Decatur who purchased the weapon at a gun auction in the Fort Worth area. The pistol had been placed in the auction by an employee of a gas and oil sub-contractor who claims to have purchased the gun from a truck driver while working in the Rosebud area. All transactions that occurred in Texas were either to or from a licensed dealer and there is no evidence that the individuals involved were aware that the gun was stolen at the time. Detectives are still attempting to identify and locate the person or persons who were in possession of and sold the gun in Rosebud.
