Gorecke Pleas to Manslaughter

Late Tuesday afternoon, twenty-one year old, Cody Lynn Gorecke entered a plea of guilty to Manslaughter (a class B Felony), Criminal use of a Prohibited Weapon (a class C Felony), Purchase or Possession of Alcohol by a minor (an unclassified Misdemeanor), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (a class A Misdemeanor), and Possession of Marijuana (a class A Misdemeanor) in the Cleburne County Circuit Court.

On Wednesday both the Prosecution and the Defense offered testimony concerning the case. After hearing all testimony, Judge John Dan Kemp sentenced Gorecke to serve ten years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections and pay a fine of $10,000 dollars on the Manslaughter charge and to serve six years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections on the Criminal use of a Prohibited Weapon charge with the sentences to run consecutively. Gorecke was also sentenced to serve a total of six months in the county jail on the Misdemeanor charges.

Gorecke, arrested on January 15th 2011 at his home in Wilburn, had been held in the Cleburne County Detention pending trial since that time. The charges Gorecke entered a plea of guilty to were filed by the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office following the investigation of an incident which occurred in the kitchen area of Gorecke’s home and that resulted in a seventeen year old girl suffering a fatal gunshot wound.
