Recently Cleburne County students at West Side and Concord Schools received a lesson on the dangers of drinking and driving through the use of a DWI simulator. The event was coordinated through the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office and it's School Resource Program. P.E.E.R.S Awareness, based in Michigan, brought the hi-tech simulator to the school campuses. The simulator was an actual vehicle which, being controlled by a computer, took the students on a virtual ride through the eyes of an intoxicated driver and usually resulted in a destructive ending. At the end of each scenario the simulator gave the students the results of their "joy ride" which included the number of traffic infractions they committed while behind the wheel. The simulator was funded by each school and travels to colleges and high schools across the country.
